The client

Alludo, formerly Corel Corporation, rebranded in January 2023. With over 35 years of legacy, the company is focused on reimagining the future of work — how people create, ideate and share information.

Their aim is to let users accomplish tasks more efficiently across any device, at any time, from anywhere.

The challenge

Alludo's graphics products carry decades of desktop engineering. Extending them to cloud and browser environments touches architecture, rendering and platform capability at the same time.

That work needed senior engineers embedded in Alludo's own teams, contributing across four distinct technical domains rather than delivering an isolated project.

The approach

Acumen provides professionals who are integral to Alludo's graphics development team, organized into four workstreams that map directly to Alludo's own product structure.

Each team owns a technical domain end to end, working inside Alludo's engineering process and toolchain.

TeamFour dedicated teams: cloud architecture, typography, Web Assembly and DocumentView.

The solution

What we built.

01

Cloud architecture team

Developing a robust cloud computing architecture to support CorelDRAW, allowing users to access these design tools in a cloud environment.

02

Typography team

Enhancing font management and rendering across TrueType, OpenType and Variable fonts — storing fonts in an SQLite database, retrieving them on demand, and rendering with Skia.

03

WebAssembly team

Adapting existing desktop application controls for web use with Web Assembly and Emscripten, converting desktop functionality into web-compatible components at near-native speed.

04

DocumentView team

Improving how documents are previewed within the CorelDRAW Graphics suite for a seamless, efficient viewing experience.
